Jim Lutz is a New York City area musician and composer who plays trombone, bass trombone, tuba, bass guitar, and keyboards. Originally from central Michigan, Jim has appeared on stages, in recording studios, and in broadcast media in dozens of cities around the world including London, Paris, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and of course New York. From January 2023-January 2026, Jim played trombone, bass trombone and tuba at Beetlejuice the Musical (1st National Tour 2023-2025, Broadway 2025). Other credits include four Cirque du Soleil productions, two Disney parks with numerous ensembles, Dallas Brass, and the TONY® and EMMY® award-winning production “Blast!”
Jim's current/recent work includes performing with Beginnings Chicago Tribute Band, Brian Kirk & the Jirks, Eastern Wind Symphony, and composing for Circus Smirkus. Jim creates music for clients in greater NYC and around the world, and for his YouTube channel, one-man band, and Patreon. His most recent personal project is called Abundant Living and was created in response to the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Jim earned a master's degree in jazz studies at the University of Southern California while serving as a teaching assistant. He also earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Central Michigan University.
Jim's musical journey began at age 4 with his first piano lesson. He loves to make music that helps to tell a story, to stir emotions, and to bring a little bit more beauty into our world.
